Whether you are a beginner or an experienced rider the Tour de Canberra is a challenging 3 days that can be enjoyed by everyone who wants to improve their cycling. While there are plenty of hills there are also plenty of fast paced descents and long flat sections to keep everyone challenged.
Arriving in Goulburn for lunch at 12pm we park our cars and load our luggage into the Turramurra Cyclery Support Van. Roll out is 1.30pm. After a gental warm up we hook up onto Braidwood Rd. Little rolling hills out to Bathurst Lake then turning right through Tarago and then Bungendore. Turning right takes us along Bungendore Rd and up a short climb then some more rolling hills before we turn left onto the Federal Highway and cresting the hill into the ACT giving us a great view of Canberra before descending down into the suburbs.
Breakfast is served by the Peloton Cafe before the start of stage 2 at 8.00am. Again departing Kingston we past Parliment House then pass through the outer suburb of Duffy. A group turn right heading the opposite way to yesterdays ride down Urriara Crossing and up the short sharp climb back out of the crossing. After regrouping at the top we grind up the false flat before descending down Mt McDonald then turning right, crossing the Cotter bridge before climbing up the steep 2km Cotter climb. While B group continue straight and down hill all the way to Cotter. Regrouping each group separatly at the top we tackle the roller coaster hills before the steep nasty Corin Dam climb where A and B groups regroup for the ride back to Canberra.
Breakfast is served by the Peloton Cafe before the start of stage 3 at 8.00am. Warming up we roll out past the airport and onto Suttons Rd. Slightly uphill we cross the Federal Highway and hit the plains through Guneroo, Belmount Forest and the Gunning. With not much in town to do we leave Gunning for the rolling hills of Fish River and Cullerin before the fast hitout for the finish in Goulburn. Lunch before the short dive back to Sydney.
